The Only God

Slowly savour the grandeur of the only, True God!

...there is a single
and simple
spiritual being,
whom we call God -

eternal,
incomprehensible,
invisible,
unchangeable,
infinite,
almighty;

completely wise,
just,
and good,
and the overflowing source
of all good.

The Belgic Conession, Article 1: The Only God

I was particularly struck by the word "simple". He is incomprehensible, and yet simple? "The overflowing source of all good". Christy played a CD for me on our way back from MO. I can't remember the group or the title, but there was a recurring line: "The shadow proves the sunshine". How do we know that He is the source of all good? The absence of it.

Thanks again for your reflections on my postings, Anne. I get excited when I see there is an insightful comment.
Neat parallel with the song lines: so true!

Was the "simple" comment a question or a befuddlement or an exclamation. I couldn't tell.... :)

I guess it's a question. Incomprehensible and simple at the same time. Perhaps He is overwhelmingly simple, but our minds complicate things or are simply beyond understanding. I am generally struck with the scope of God and His love for us. How do we emulate that to Him and to others, which is a Christian's primary job? Too huge!
